What Does the Research Behind Energy Rods Actually Say?
If you dig into the history behind copper-and-zinc energy rods, you'll eventually come across references to Russian research from the late 20th and early 21st century — brainwave (EEG) recordings and other measurements taken during sessions with hand-held cylinders, described in detail in Valery Uvarov's book The Wands of Horus. It's worth addressing honestly, because it gets cited a lot, often without much context.
What that research describes, in broad terms, is small-scale observational work: recording changes in brainwave activity or other physiological measures in individuals during and after sessions with the rods, and reporting improvements the researchers attributed to the practice. That's a genuinely interesting historical record of what one group of researchers observed at the time.
What it is not is independent, peer-reviewed clinical research of the kind that would let anyone — us included — make a medical claim. Small observational studies from a single research group, without published, repeatable, peer-reviewed methodology, don't meet that bar, and we'd rather say so plainly than let the word "research" do more work than it should.
So where does that leave a customer? Our honest position is this: the practice has a long tradition and plenty of anecdotal reports of people finding it calming, focusing and grounding — including the testimonials on our site — and a documented history of energy researchers taking it seriously enough to measure. What it doesn't have is the kind of independent clinical evidence that would justify a medical claim, and we don't make one. See our full anecdotal-claims disclaimer for exactly where that line sits, including who this practice isn't suitable for.
If that honesty is exactly why you're still here, our beginner's guide to chakra balancing is the best next step, and the full range is in the shop.
This article reflects the traditional/practitioner view behind the Rods of Ma’at® brand, drawn from craft heritage and practitioner feedback — see our sources and further reading. It is not medical advice; see our full disclaimer on anecdotal claims.
